The Opportunity

Are you an Associate Structural Engineer with experience in the buildings sector? Do you have a passion for delivering projects for a variety of clients?

At Stantec, we’re proud of our growing, respected Structural Engineering team and we're looking for a talented Associate Structural Engineer to take a leading role in delivering complex, high-profile projects across the UK from either our Glasgow or Edinburgh offices.

You’ll lead technically challenging projects across multiple sectors, all while being part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that includes Civil, MEP, Environmental, Energy, and Water professionals. You’ll contribute to building designs spanning Education, Residential, Healthcare, Heritage, Commercial, Logistics, Water and Energy sectors.

Technical Delivery:

  • Lead structural engineering design from concept through to construction, across a range of building projects.
  • Promote and implement design innovation, driving improvements in project design and delivery methods.
  • Oversee your team’s efforts, ensuring high-quality engineering designs are developed and delivered in accordance with quality assurance and commercial governance procedures.
  • Maintain a high-level overview of projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and meet client specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.

Team Management:

  • Mentor and develop team members through performance appraisals, goal-setting, and constructive feedback.
  • Handle staff HR issues, including identifying and addressing team weaknesses or challenges.
  • Take responsibility for managing your team’s resources, ensuring effective allocation to meet project deadlines.
  • Act as an in-house Project/task Manager, ensuring adherence to quality assurance and commercial governance standards.
  • Manage change control processes, ensuring that any changes to scope are effectively communicated and any additional fees are managed appropriately.
  • Monitor the financial performance of projects, ensuring that costs are controlled and that projects remain within budget.
  • Participate in divisional task groups and promote design innovation across the team.
  • Oversee contractual matters, ensuring that all agreements are adhered to and that potential issues are resolved promptly.

Client and Business Development:

  • Manage client relationships, maintaining strong communication to ensure their needs are met and fostering long-term business partnerships.
  • Ensure a sustainable stream of work through effective sales planning, participation in project bids, and engaging in tender interviews.
  • Contribute to the preparation of marketing materials and assist in business and sales planning to drive future growth.
  • Support financial budgeting for projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and profitability goals.

About You:

You will be degree qualified (BEng/MEng) in Structural or Civil Engineering and Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with the IStructE or ICE.

You will have proven experience in overseeing project delivery of building structure projects across a variety of sectors with strong commercial, design, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

You will be a confident communicator with excellent interpersonal and team leadership abilities and have an interest in expanding business development network.
