The Opportunity

Scotland's water sector is entering a significant period of investment as Scottish Water continues to deliver ambitious programmes that improve resilience, enhance environmental performance and prepare infrastructure for future generations. At Stantec, we're helping deliver these nationally important projects, and we're looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Water team in Edinburgh or Glasgow.

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of technical delivery across a diverse portfolio of water and wastewater projects while continuing to develop your leadership skills. Working alongside industry-leading specialists within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you'll lead complex mechanical engineering solutions, mentor developing engineers and contribute to projects that create lasting benefits for communities across Scotland.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the delivery of mechanical engineering design across a range of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects, supporting delivery from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment works, pumping stations and associated infrastructure.
  • Producing and reviewing technical calculations, specifications, schedules and engineering documentation.
  • Working collaboratively with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
  • Supporting site investigations, design reviews and construction activities where required.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Building strong working relationships with clients, contractors and delivery partners to ensure successful project outcomes.

YOUR IMPACT

The work you deliver will directly support the future of Scotland's water infrastructure, helping clients improve resilience, meet environmental commitments and deliver sustainable engineering solutions that benefit communities for generations to come.

Beyond project delivery, you'll play an important role in strengthening our Mechanical Engineering capability by sharing your expertise, supporting the development of colleagues and promoting technical excellence across the team. Your contribution will help deliver innovative infrastructure that protects the environment while supporting the continued growth of Stantec's Water business.
