Your role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an aspiring Graduate Hydraulic Engineer to join our Hydraulics team to support the delivery of multiple major frameworks, both locally and nationally. You will play a key role in the hydraulic design of the following systems:
- Pipeline systems
- Water treatment works (WTW)
- Wastewater treatment works (WwTW)
Using steady state and transient (surge) modelling software you will process data, conduct calculations, and develop hydraulic models to support the delivery of innovative solutions to our clients. There will also be the opportunity to work alongside colleagues using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), with the potential to develop in this area.
- Day-to-day hydraulic activities will focus on:
- Working on a variety of multi-disciplinary projects covering various clients/frameworks and the whole project lifecycle, with support from senior members of the team
- Using modelling software to create and analyse hydraulic models – taking available data and using to construct models and analysing the results
- Reporting results – writing technical reports to share our work with internal and external stakeholders
- Working with senior engineers on checks and reviews to ensure appropriate quality assurance
- Project meetings – discussing solutions and updating on progress with Project Managers, Project Technical Leads and other discipline engineers
- Team meetings – working with the rest of our UK&I team to support each other, solve problems, share best practice and just generally catch up!
The Hydraulics team is talented, welcoming and diverse! We deliver hydraulic solutions for most of the major UK&I water companies and regularly meet virtually to say hello, discuss any ongoing projects and ensure we’re all working effectively. There are several graduates in the team and also those having progressed to more senior roles, giving you the opportunity to receive the most relevant support and guidance.
Current project examples receiving hydraulic input from Edinburgh:
- Outline design of a large WwTW in England
- Desktop condition assessment of a sludge pipeline
- Concept design of 2No medium WwTWs
- Concept design of a new large long sea outfall
- Optioneering input into a combined sewer overflow (CSO) upgrade
