The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Senior Structural Engineer to lead volume housing schemes within our highly regarded, award-winning Civil & Structural team in Bristol. This role offers the opportunity to lead and deliver exciting projects, supported by a talented team within a collaborative and people-focused culture.

You will join a multidisciplinary environment, with the opportunity to work alongside other successful divisions such as MEP, Nuclear and Smart Energy and Sustainability. This specific role is to specifically lead on volume housing projects, with occasional opportunities to be involved in projects in other sectors, projects range from 20 – 1000+ unit developments with scopes ranging from simple strip foundations to multistorey mixed used blocks.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Delivery:

  • Lead the design and delivery of structural engineering on volume housing projects, from concept and scheme design to detailed design, tender, and construction packages.
  • Understand varying scope requirements for various housebuilding clients.
  • Oversee the preparation of calculation packages for submission to Building Control and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Provide technical oversight and review contributions from project engineers and technicians.
  • Promote innovation in design while maintaining high-quality standards and adhering to Hydrock’s quality assurance processes.

Team Management:

  • Manage and develop graduate engineers, engineers, and technicians within your team.
  • Take ownership of resource planning, ensuring the efficient allocation of team capacity across projects.
  • Contribute to divisional initiatives such as task groups and design innovation.

Client and Business Development:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, and contractors, when working on volume housing projects with closer client and design team interaction these skills are essential
  • Prepare fee proposals for review.
  • Participate in client networking and represent the team at industry events, with a focus on cultivating new opportunities.

About You

  • MEng or BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering. 
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (or actively working towards it) with either the IStructE/ICE
  • Proven experience in building structures and foundations specifically on volume housing projects.
  • Proven experience of managing client expectations, timescales and resources on fast paced volume housing projects.
  • Proficiency in analysis, modelling, and hand calculations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams on projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage clients and inspire team members.
