Stantec is currently looking for an Engineer or Senior Engineer to join its Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) team to help with its growth, whilst the world of autonomy, Smart Mobility and Active Travel changes the face of transport network controls.
The ITS team is working on projects across the UK to improve travel network operations at existing interchanges and provide new controls as part of emerging developments and infrastructure. The team’s work responds to modifications to existing infrastructure as well as designing new systems that will complement Smart Mobility initiatives and corridors. As well as work in the UK, the team is able to work with Stantec’s Global teams - looking for and applying innovative solutions for the evolving world of ITS. Innovation is wholeheartedly encouraged at Stantec and the ITS workstream is at the forefront of that process.
You will help with the design and assessment of traffic signal infrastructure and other traffic control systems. Ideally this would build from your initial grounding in systems design and specification, however, candidates demonstrating a good aptitude in general Transport Planning or Highway Engineering and wanting to develop these skills would still be encouraged to apply. Part of your role will be to help the ITS team in the assessment and reporting of their projects and prepare the systems’ layouts.
There will be a balance of mentored training from the team supplemented by software training by external training organisations. As you progress you will work more autonomously and will develop links to other teams within Stantec.
The ITS team is part of a wider team which is involved with some of the UK’s Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects and other regionally important and large-scale initiatives. Working in collaboration with teams across the UK and internationally, the wider team advises on a blend of infrastructure and development projects for operational and construction phases. This gives a broad portfolio of solving high profile complex temporary challenges balanced with advising on innovative permanent options.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and diligent person to help our growing and successful team to design and develop the ITS projects. In turn we will help you develop your technical skills and assist you in a path to progression within the company and the industry. To complement the input from you we will consider the most suitable route for you to develop your career.
This role will provide you with significant opportunity for career progression and personal development, through the delivery of high value quality services to influential clients.
ABOUT YOU
You will have at least an applicable Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning or electrical engineering and a strong educational background in mathematics and written subjects. You will have at least two years’ applicable industry experience since graduation. You should be proficient in AutoCAD and have robust experience in traffic modelling for traffic systems. Depending on your level of qualification we will design with you a route to further progression. We are looking for you to demonstrate an enthusiasm for the ITS industry and we will explore how that would fit with our aspirations for the team.
You will assist with the design and appraisal of ITS systems, working with the engineers and team leaders on a range of public and private sector projects. We will provide training and guidance with a view to you being able quickly to apply that knowledge and skill with reduced supervision and to grow within the team.
The strongest candidates will be someone that can evidence their ability to assimilate and manage data; show experience of AutoCad and traffic systems design; and demonstrate an enthusiasm for engineering, ITS and Smart Mobility. Further positive traits will be strong analytical skills and good report writing and communication skills.
You may not yet have all the qualifications that you need for your career but if you can demonstrate to us that you are willing and able to learn then we will help you on that journey. The more you put in the more we will achieve together.
You will be working in a highly numerate environment with engineering design and transport planning at its core. To succeed in this role, you will be a positive and enthusiastic team player with a passion for advancing ITS and transport planning.
The friendly and collaborative culture at Stantec is something we are proud of and we have many other reasons for you to be excited about joining us. We offer a competitive salary, agile and flexible working arrangements, industry leading training, great projects and lots more.
We will help you to develop your professional accreditation, subject to your qualifications and chosen route to Incorporation or Chartership.
