The Opportunity

Our busy and successful Leeds office, located within walking distance of Leeds train station is recruiting for a Associate Town Planner! We offer a modern, open-plan and high-quality office environment with a friendly and supportive team environment.

Our Town Planning team has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Town Planner to join them as part of their growth strategy. The team use their local knowledge and national influence to plan and deliver projects of all types and scales, including new town settlements, planning promotion work, renewables (including DCO’s, battery storage and solar), greenfield residential, mixed-use, commercial, education and employment schemes.

We are looking for excellent communications skills, robust planning experience and technical knowledge and a willingness to learn. Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Promote large to medium scale residential, mixed-use, employment and other infrastructure/Energy developments (both brownfield and greenfield) through the Local Development Framework and then by coordinating subsequent applications
  • Conduct research and site appraisals on projects for our client base
  • Prepare, submit and negotiate planning applications of all sizes/types
  • Prepare planning and occasionally socio-economic statements
  • Lodge appeals and potentially appear at informal hearings
  • Develop client relationships, network and help to raise the office/team profile
  • Co-ordinate internal and external project teams and project management/Quality Assurance
  • Prepare Local Plan and Neighbourhood Plan representations
  • Act as a mentor to junior colleagues

You will be:

  • Working on/have experience working on similar developments, ideally within Yorkshire or the Northeast region
  • MRTPI qualified or working towards it
  • Committed to continuing your professional development with a willingness to learn and progress
  • Collaborative by nature
  • Experienced/have an interest in undertaking quantitative and sequential assessments
  • Used to working with minimal supervision and have a strong ability to use your own initiative
  • Personable and professional with high levels of ambition and drive
  • Able to manage your own time and a wide and complex workload
  • A full UK driving licence holder and willing to travel nationally when required
