The Opportunity

Have you ever thought about joining a multidisciplinary team where you can work in a diverse, welcoming, and fun environment on amazing projects, while starting or continuing your journey to becoming professionally qualified? Then look no further than Stantec. We currently have exciting opportunities for Water Quality Modellers to join us at one of our offices in Leeds, Newcastle, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, or Manchester.

Stantec is working in partnership with water companies across the UK and Ireland, as well as with a wider stakeholder community, to develop effective and sustainable water and wastewater solutions that address the environmental needs of our inland waters and coast. The challenges are substantial as water quality standards become increasingly stringent and we consider a broader range of systems and environmental processes. This requires an integrated team that can work across the water cycle to meet industry-wide efficiency and environmental challenges.

Key to our growth is the continuous development of our skills, knowledge and expertise in understanding the context of water quality within environmental systems. Through integration with other knowledge in urban and natural catchments, we collaborate with a range of stakeholders to help clients and communities develop solutions that deliver sustainable and efficient environmental performance. This is a great opportunity for a water quality modeller to join an ambitious expert team in a role that will provide plenty of scope for technical development and career progression.

You will work within a core of scientific and engineering experts supporting a range of clients, primarily from the water sector, as well as the energy and infrastructure sectors. Together we will identify pollution sources, pathways and receptors and develop solutions for natural and urban catchments.

This position offers the right person a genuine opportunity to improve our environments and communities. We are looking for driven individuals who think differently and love to challenge conventional thinking. Our expanding project portfolio identifies water quality solutions that meet community needs, including reducing carbon and improving biodiversity.

About You

You will be degree qualified in a relevant field, with postgraduate qualifications and / or experience within the water industry, and either be working towards or already be a chartered member of a relevant professional institution.

You should have some working experience with at least one type of water quality modelling software (e.g. MIKE, Delft3D, SAGIS-SIMCAT, RQP) with demonstrable application in inland systems. This could be in the form of modelling physicochemical, biological, bacterial, or chemical parameters. You will gain a basic understanding of physicochemical water quality and the associated regulatory standards for freshwater.

A background or understanding of the regulated water industry and/or catchment and nature-based solutions is advantageous but not mandatory. You will also have the necessary skills and experience to liaise with a broad range of stakeholders, where you will be working closely with clients and other professional staff across multidisciplinary business groups.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Delivery of technically sound quantitative models to support wider project delivery.
  • Author and reviewer of technical evidence-led reports, including compliance with our quality assurance processes.
  • Provide timely technical input and expertise to multidisciplinary projects and programmes of work.
  • Building our client relationships and continuous development of our services across the UK and the Water sector.
  • Mentoring of junior staff and strengthening relationships with other disciplines.

We are proud of our culture. We have an open, friendly and professional environment where ideas are shared, and opportunities seized. We know that our continued success and development depend on yours, so we go the extra mile when it comes to providing you with the support you need to be the very best. If you want to work on exciting and diverse projects that make a difference in people’s lives, then a career at Stantec could be the one for you!

We offer a competitive salary, agile and flexible working arrangements, industry-leading training, great projects, and lots more!
