The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a Drainage Civil Engineer to be based in our Edinburgh or Glasgow office.

Do you have a passion for transport and the roads that link our cities? Are you motivated by the challenge of balancing the vital social benefits that road networks provide with the need to reduce environmental impact? Can you innovate and develop the designs required to help solve these challenges? If so, we would love to hear from you.

Stantec has ambitious growth plans and a rapidly expanding portfolio of work. We are seeking a Drainage Civil Engineer with expertise in surface water drainage to join our growing Transport Infrastructure team in Scotland, delivering high-quality projects for both public and private sector clients.

Your Role:

  • You will play a key role in all aspects of drainage delivery within the team. This will include:
  • Leading and contributing to surface water drainage design across highways, active travel and development infrastructure projects
  • Being hands-on with project delivery across the full lifecycle — from concept, feasibility and planning through to detailed design and construction support
  • Acting as the key drainage contact on multi-disciplinary projects and prospective opportunities
  • Supporting and collaborating with teams across the UK to deliver schemes for a wide range of clients
  • You will also contribute to developing the drainage capability of the wider team by mentoring engineers, checking work, providing technical feedback and promoting best practice.

About You:

  • Experience in surface water drainage design for roads, active travel schemes and development infrastructure
  • A proven track record of delivering multi-disciplinary projects across all project stages
  • Strong working knowledge of DMRB, local road and water authority standards, CDM and BIM
  • Experience using Autodesk InfoDrainage and Civil 3D
  • Beyond technical expertise, you will be passionate about delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions. You will be:
  • An excellent communicator, internally and externally
  • Detail-oriented yet pragmatic in your approach
  • Enthusiastic, ambitious and forward-thinking
  • Committed to continuous professional development and staying up to date with evolving industry standards
  • You will use your experience to mentor and support other civil engineers through on-the-job training, technical reviews and knowledge sharing, helping to strengthen the capability of the wider team.
Qualifications:

  • You will hold a degree in Civil Engineering and be working towards Chartered status.
