The Opportunity

Are you a Principal Structural Engineer with experience in the buildings sector? Do you have a passion for delivering projects for a variety of clients?

At Stantec, we’re proud of our growing, respected Structural Engineering team and we're looking for a talented Principal Structural Engineer to take a leading role in delivering complex, high-profile projects across the UK from either our Glasgow or Edinburgh offices.

You’ll lead technically challenging projects across multiple sectors, all while being part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that includes Civil, MEP, Environmental, Energy, and Water professionals. You’ll contribute to building designs spanning Education, Residential, Healthcare, Heritage, Commercial, Logistics, Water and Energy sectors.

Technical Delivery:

  • Lead the analysis, design, specification, and coordination of the structural engineering design from concept through to construction, across a range of building projects.
  • Collaborate with design and client teams to ensure seamless integration with broader project goals.
  • Represent the organisation at all project stages, communicating effectively to address client needs and resolve challenges.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and quality oversight for engineers and technicians.
  • Drive design innovation while upholding Stantec’s high standards and quality assurance processes.

Team Management:

  • Mentor and develop team members through performance appraisals, goal-setting, and constructive feedback.
  • Plan and allocate resources efficiently to meet project demands.
  • Contribute to team development initiatives and help foster a positive, inclusive working environment.
  • Act as an in-house Project/task Manager, ensuring adherence to quality assurance and commercial governance standards.
  • Demonstrate financial management expertise by supporting invoicing, financial forecasting, work-in-progress tracking, and debt recovery.

Client and Business Development:

  • Manage relationships with key clients to maintain and expand business opportunities.
  • Participate in business development events and networking activities to support strategic growth.
  • Take responsibility for work-winning activities, including preparing fee proposals and contributing to multidisciplinary bids.
  • Gain experience in business planning and financial budgeting to align projects with organisational objectives.
  • Contribute to divisional task groups focused on improving operational processes and enhancing service delivery.

About You:

You will be degree qualified (BEng/MEng) in Structural or Civil Engineering and Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (or progressing toward chartership) with the IStructE or ICE.

You will have proven experience in delivering building structure projects across a variety of sectors with strong design, analytical, and problem-solving skills – both software-based and by hand, and ideally you will be proficient in the use of Tekla Building structures.

You will be a confident communicator with excellent interpersonal and team leadership abilities and have an interest in expanding business development network preferrable
