Senior Principal Electrical Engineer – Water

THE OPPORTUNITY

Join Stantec's Water team at a pivotal time for the UK water industry. As the sector enters a period of unprecedented investment through the latest Asset Management Plan (AMP) cycle, there has never been a more exciting opportunity to influence the future of water infrastructure. At Stantec, we are partnering with leading water companies to deliver innovative, sustainable, and resilient solutions that address some of the most pressing environmental and infrastructure challenges facing our communities.

As a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer, you will take a leading role within a highly regarded multidisciplinary team, providing technical leadership across major programmes and complex infrastructure projects. This is a unique opportunity to shape technical excellence, influence strategic project delivery, and contribute to the continued growth of our Water business. You'll be joining a collaborative and ambitious team where your expertise will be valued, your leadership will be recognised, and your career will have the opportunity to develop even further.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and delivery. Working closely with Project Managers, discipline leads, clients, and stakeholders, you will guide the development of high-quality EICA solutions that meet complex technical, operational, and environmental requirements.

You will lead the delivery of EICA design services across a diverse portfolio of water infrastructure projects, provide technical oversight and governance, facilitate collaborative design reviews and workshops, and act as a trusted advisor to clients and project teams. In addition, you will support the development of engineers within the business, sharing knowledge, mentoring colleagues, and helping to strengthen Stantec's technical capability and reputation within the industry.

YOUR IMPACT

This role presents an opportunity to influence some of the most significant water infrastructure investments currently being delivered in the UK. Through your leadership and technical expertise, you will help shape solutions that improve the resilience, efficiency, and sustainability of critical infrastructure, supporting clients as they respond to increasing environmental and regulatory challenges.

Beyond project delivery, you will play an important role in developing future talent, advancing technical excellence, and strengthening client relationships. Your contribution will help create lasting benefits for communities, protect vital natural resources, and support the delivery of infrastructure that serves future generations.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer who combines exceptional technical capability with strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.

You will have:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or the ability to demonstrate equivalent professional experience.
  • Significant experience delivering electrical or EICA engineering solutions within complex infrastructure environments.
  • Strong experience producing and reviewing technical specifications, control philosophies, Single Line Diagrams, and technical reports.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams and providing technical oversight on major projects.
  • The ability to build effective relationships with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, and leadership skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience within the Water sector.
  • Experience delivering projects within the Energy, Utilities, or Infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience facilitating technical workshops, design reviews, and risk management activities such as HAZOPs.
