The Opportunity

The UK water sector is experiencing unprecedented investment, creating exciting opportunities to deliver innovative engineering solutions that improve resilience, protect the environment and support communities for generations to come. At Stantec, our national Hydraulic Engineering team is at the forefront of this transformation, delivering specialist expertise across some of the UK's largest regulated water frameworks.

We're looking for a Senior Hydraulic Engineer to join our growing team in Reading, Brighton, Cambridge, Leeds, Edinburgh or Warrington. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of technically challenging hydraulic engineering projects while developing your leadership skills within a nationally recognised team. Working alongside industry-leading specialists, you'll help deliver innovative solutions across major water infrastructure programmes while building your expertise and contributing to the continued growth of our Hydraulic Engineering capability.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Hydraulic Engineer, you'll lead the technical delivery of hydraulic engineering studies across a diverse portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, supporting delivery from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering hydraulic studies, including steady state and transient analysis, across a range of water infrastructure projects.
  • Developing and reviewing hydraulic models, calculations and technical reports using specialist software such as HADES, VARISM, Flow-3D or equivalent.
  • Providing technical guidance on pumping systems, hydraulic structures and conveyance assets.
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, Project Managers and clients to develop practical, sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Supporting site investigations, design reviews and construction activities where required.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior engineers while contributing to the continuous improvement of hydraulic engineering best practice.

YOUR IMPACT

Your work will directly influence the resilience, efficiency and long-term performance of critical water infrastructure across the UK. Through high-quality hydraulic engineering, you'll help clients optimise asset performance, improve network resilience and deliver sustainable solutions that address future environmental and operational challenges.

Beyond project delivery, you'll support the continued growth of Stantec's Hydraulic Engineering capability by sharing technical knowledge, mentoring colleagues and driving engineering excellence. Your expertise will help deliver infrastructure that protects communities, safeguards the environment and creates lasting value for our clients.

ABOUT YOU

  • Experience leading technical delivery on multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Strong communication, analytical and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting the development of junior engineers.

Desirable
