Beyond project delivery, you'll play an important role in strengthening our Mechanical Engineering capability by sharing your expertise, supporting the development of colleagues and promoting technical excellence across the team. Your contribution will help deliver innovative infrastructure that protects the environment while supporting the continued growth of Stantec's Water business.
About the Role
You will lead the delivery of mechanical engineering design across a range of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects for Scottish Water, supporting delivery from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning. The role is based in our Inverness office with hybrid working.
Your work will focus on water and wastewater treatment works, pumping stations and associated infrastructure. You will produce and review technical calculations, specifications, schedules and engineering documentation, and work closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
You will support site investigations, design reviews and construction activities where required, and build strong working relationships with clients, contractors and delivery partners.
You will also provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, helping to strengthen our Mechanical Engineering capability.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Lead mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment works, pumping stations and associated infrastructure.
- Produce and review technical calculations, specifications, schedules and engineering documentation.
- Work with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
- Support site investigations, design reviews and construction activities.
- Build strong working relationships with clients, contractors and delivery partners.
- Help clients improve resilience, meet environmental commitments and deliver sustainable solutions for Scotland's water infrastructure.
- Mentor junior engineers and share your expertise across the team.
- Promote technical excellence and support the continued growth of Stantec's Water business.
About You
Essential
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/IEng), or actively working towards.
- Experience delivering mechanical engineering projects within the UK water sector or another regulated infrastructure environment.
- Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes, pumping stations and mechanical systems.
- Experience leading technical delivery across multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Experience producing and reviewing technical calculations, specifications and engineering documentation.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
- Experience mentoring or supporting the development of junior engineers.
Desirable
- Experience working collaboratively with contractors and delivery partners.
- Knowledge of digital engineering tools and modern methods of project delivery.
- Experience supporting framework delivery and client relationships.
- Experience from adjacent regulated sectors such as energy, nuclear or utilities.
