The Opportunity

Are you a Chartered Senior Planner looking to take the next step in your career within a high-performing, growth-focused planning team in the Birmingham and wider Midlands market?

We are seeking a motivated Senior Town Planner to join our Birmingham office, located in the heart of the city centre with excellent access to New Street, Moor Street and Snow Hill stations.

This is an opportunity to join a leading planning consultancy team within one of the most sustainability-driven organisations globally, and to play an active role in delivering high-quality planning advice across a diverse range of development projects. If you’re looking for exposure, progression and the chance to work on impactful schemes, this is an excellent next step.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

You will join a busy, collaborative and multidisciplinary Birmingham planning team delivering work across residential, mixed-use, commercial, industrial and employment sectors.

The team is well established in the Midlands market, working on projects spanning Development Plan promotion, planning applications and appeals, with strong client relationships and a growing pipeline of work.

You will work in a supportive environment where you’ll be given responsibility, autonomy and the opportunity to develop your technical and client-facing experience. The role offers exposure to both local and national projects, allowing you to build a strong reputation within the industry.

You will benefit from a collaborative, integrated approach, working closely with colleagues across design, transport, engineering and environmental disciplines to deliver joined-up planning solutions.

YOUR IMPACT:

In this role, you will:

  • Support the promotion of medium to large-scale residential, mixed-use, employment and regeneration schemes, including both brownfield and greenfield sites
  • Undertake site appraisals, research and planning assessments to support project strategy and client decision-making
  • Prepare, submit and negotiate planning applications of varying scale and complexity
  • Contribute to the preparation of planning statements and Statements of Community Involvement/Engagement
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of planning appeals, including written representations and Hearing support
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with both new and existing clients
  • Coordinate internal and external project teams, supporting effective project management and delivery
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to ensure commercially sound, deliverable planning outcomes

This is a role where you will build real breadth of experience while contributing meaningfully to high-quality projects across the Midlands.

ABOUT YOU:

You are a Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) operating at Planner or Senior Planner level, with experience in consultancy or private sector environments.

You will bring:

  • Experience in residential and/or mixed-use development planning
  • Strong understanding of the planning system, particularly within the Midlands region
  • Experience in preparing and managing planning applications and supporting documentation
  • Exposure to appeals, hearings or Development Plan work (desirable but not essential)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
  • A proactive, collaborative approach and willingness to learn from senior colleagues
  • The ability to build and maintain effective client and stakeholder relationships

You are likely looking for a role that offers strong project exposure, structured development and the opportunity to progress within a supportive and ambitious team.
